MIAC's, Day Two: Ole men take lead, Gustie women still on top

MINNEAPOLIS - The St. Olaf College men moved into first place and the Gustavus Adolphus College women remained on top after the second day of the 2007 MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center on Friday night.

Women
First place Gustavus won the 200 Medley Relay in a meet record 2:47.84. The Gusties' Sarah Koepp won the 100 Breast.

Friday's finals started with St. Olaf first year diver Alyssa Germeroth capturing a win in the 3-meter competition. The Oles' also got a win from Julia Rood, who won the 100 Fly (57.84), and a comeback win in the 800 Free Relay (7:51.31).

Carleton first year Kate Alexander, who won the 200 IM on Thursday, won the 400 IM in meet and league record 4:36.63. Teammate Karin Brown won the 200 Free in a come-from-behind 1:55.52.

Men
St. Olaf led off the evening with a win in the 200 Medley Relay behind Adam Meyer, Ben Wareham, Nelson Westby and Jake Koch in an MIAC record 1:31.64.

Westby also picked up his second and third individual wins of the championships, taking the 100 Fly in an NCAA "A" cut 49.50 and the 100 Breast in 56.82. He won the 200 IM on Thursday. St. Olaf had five of the top seven spots, including the top three, in the 100 Breast.

Carleton's Ted Marschall won the 400 IM, breaking his own meet record, in 4:00.72.

Gustavus went 1-3-6 in the 200 Free, getting a win from Ben Hanson and a third place finish from Brian Amundson. The Gusties also got a win from Scott Hagemeyer in the 100 Back.

Prelims for the third and final day begin at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.
