Baseball sweeps Scots for 12th straight win

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Todd Mathison threw a three-hit shutout and first year Carson Jones was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the St. Olaf baseball team to a 3-0 win over Macalester College in the first half of an MIAC-opening doubleheader, and the Oles followed with an 8-1 win in game two on Monday.
Game One: St. Olaf 3, Macalester 0 The Oles' outhit the Scots 9-3 and left 10 on base in the win, their 11th in a row.
Mathison improved to 4-0 on the year with the win and 6-0 in MIAC games in his career. He is yet to give up an earned run in seven career league appearances (38.1 innings).
Jones drove in a run with his infield hit in the fourth and another with his knock to left field in the seventh.
Josh Maus had the Oles' other RBI on his double in the fourth.
Game Two: St. Olaf 8, Macalester 1 St. Olaf (14-1, 1-0 MIAC) won its 12th straight with an 8-1 win in game two.
Paul Johnson worked six innings to pick up the win for the Oles, who had RBI doubles from Jones and Tyler Johnson in a three-run third inning. Tyler Johnson later homered.
