DUNDAS, Minn. - Chris Bullis struck out 12 and scattered nine hits in eight innings to help the University of St. Thomas to the NCAA Tournament with a 7-3 win and MIAC Playoffs title.
St. Thomas (32-10) became the first team in the eight-year history of the MIAC Playoffs to win the event through the loser's bracket.
Bullis, the tournament's MVP, was 1-for-5 at the plate and finished weekend 12-for-23 with three doubles and a homer.
Andrew Schmiesing was 3-for-4 with a double in the loss for the Oles (31-8), who will find out it they will get an at large bid when the field is announced later tonight.
Schmiesing, who was on the all-tournament team too, scored on a Josh Schulthies single in the first, but the Toms scored five times over the next two innings off St. Olaf starter John Sopiwnik.
Paul Johnson provided six-plus quality innings of relief, giving up two runs on six hits.
Will Montgomery pitched the ninth for the Tommies. Montgomery threw in all five games UST played in the tournament.
