Men's hockey hammers Gustavus 7-1

The St. Olaf men's hockey team jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period on their way to a 7-1 rout of Gustavus College Friday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.
Kyle Hilmerhausen (So.,Wausau, Wis./ Central Texas-NAHL) began the scoring with the first goal of the game off an assist from Andy Heyne (Sr., Minnetrista, Minn./ Orono) then assisted Keith Townsend (Sr., Sterling Heights, Mich./ Bismark-NAHL) 23 seconds later putting the Oles up 2-0. Both goals were shorthanded.
Gustavus' John Arundel (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored their only goal of the game off an assist from Keith Detlefsen (Jr., Lakeville, Minn./ Holy Angels) bringing the score to 2-1. The Oles, however, were unrelenting, scoring the final five goals of the match-up, including one more first period score by Mike MacMillan (FY, Buffalo, Minn./ Billings-NAHL) assisted by John Paulson (FY, Eden Prairie, Minn./ St. Louis-USHL).
St. Olaf kept firing in the second period with another three goals, the first from Townsend for his fifth goal and 18th point of the season. The score was St. Olaf's second powerplay goal of the game, the first of which snapped a drought of 46 consecutive scoreless powerplays for the Oles. Paulson scored next for St. Olaf in the second, followed by a goal from Teddy Bickel (Jr., Chanhasen, Minn./ Danville-NAHL) .
Jeff Budish (FY, Edina, Minn./ Fargo-NAHL) finished off the scoring for the game with a shorthanded breakaway goal in the third.
Erik Kraska (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) was the losing goalie in the game, allowing six goals. Dan Kehler (Jr., Woodbury, Minn./ Great Falls-AWHL) was the winner saving 19 of 20 shots on goal.
St. Olaf heads to St. Peter Saturday night to try and complete the series sweep of Gustavus beginning at 7 p.m.
