2006 NCAA Track and Field Championships: Day II Notes/Recap

The UW-La Crosse men's team and the UW-Oshkosh women repeated as team champions at 2006 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, March 11, at St. Olaf's Tostrud Center in Northfield, Minn.
The UW-LaCrosse men's team set NCAA records with 78 points and a margin of victory of 47 points in their sixth team title in a row. The Eagles won five events, including the pole vault where they finished first, second, third and seventh. The 26 points they gained in the pole vault were more than every team except second place Lincoln University, third place UW-Oshkosh and fourth place Nebraska Wesleyan.
The UW-Oshkosh women's team edged out Williams College for their third consecutive team title. UW-Oshkosh's 44 points beat Williams 38 and College City of New York's 27. UW-Oshkosh was led by Robyn Jarocki's two individual titles in the weight throw and shot put.
MIAC well represented at NCAA Meet Eight MIAC Student-Athletes earned All-American honors at this year's NCAA Indoor Championships. Augsburg's Tonnisha Bell took second in the Women's 55 Meter Dash. Concordia-Moorhead's Angie Pfeiffer finished second in the Women's 400 Meter Dash. Carleton's Steve Harris took third in the Men's 5000 Meter Run. St. Thomas' Kristal Grigsby finished sixth in the Women's Long Jump. St. Thomas' P.J. Theisen finished sixth in the Men's 55 Meter Hurdles. Hamline's Keidra Anderson finished seventh in the Women's 5000 Meter Run. Saint Benedict's Jenna Wendorff took eighth in the Women's Shot Put. St. Olaf's Peter Cathcart finished eighth in the Men's Shot Put.
UW-Eau Claire's Barnes takes Women's Pole Vault Senior Stephanie Barnes of UW-Eau Claire won the 2006 Women's Pole Vault Championship. Barnes height of 12'7.5" beat out a strong field of competitors including reigning national champion Megan Rossi of North Central.
Freshman Tony Gregory of Cabrini soars to Triple Jump Crown The 2006 Men's Triple Jump was won by Cabrini College freshman Tony Gregory. Gregory came into the event as the seventh seed, but edged out the competition by six inches.
Triple Jump Favorite Watson claims Championship City College of New York junior Alecia Watson jumped 39'3.75" to win the 2006 Women's Triple Jump. Watson's jump broke the previous Tostrud Center record.
Harlow hops to High Jump Title Wheaton (Mass.) junior Jennifer Harlow won the 2006 Women's High Jump. Harlow's jump of 5'7.75" beat out 2005 Champion Christyn Schumann of Trinity (Texas) and Williams College senior Kristin Moss. The jump was also a Division III season's best.
Uzoma Orji wins Men's Shot Put Mass. Inst. Technology senior Uzoma Orji captured the 2006 Men's Shot Put title with a throw of 58'3.75". Orji set a new Tostrud Center record with the throw.
Minnesota native Leer wins Men's Mile with a 4:09. Pomona Pitzer junior Will Leer won the 2006 Men's Mile Run with a time of 4:09.42. Leer (a Minnetonka, Minn HS grad) broke the meet record with his run.
UW-Platteville junior Marcia Taddy takes Mile Run The 2006 Women's Mile Run was won by UW-Platteville junior Marcia Taddy. Her time of 4:55.90 barely beat out the remainder of the field.
Garcia wins Men's 55 Meter Hurdles Mass. Dartmouth junior Jonathan Garcia won the 2006 Men's 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 7.45 seconds. Garcia's time beat UW-La Crosse's Marcus Walgrave by .02 seconds.
Grigsby wins another 55 Meter Hurdle Championship Reigning Women's 55 Meter Hurdle Champion Sheana Grigsby won the 2006 Championship with a time of 8.05. Grigsby is a native of St. Paul and her time is a NCAA Division III best.
UW-La Crosse senior Nate Olson wins 400 Nate Olson of UW-La Crosse won the 2006 Men's 400 Meter Dash with a time of 48.26 seconds. Olson's victory is the third win for the UW-La Crosse men at this meet.
Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Rachel Anderson takes 400 title The 2006 Women's 400 Meter Dash was won by Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Rachel Anderson. Anderson's time of 56.35 was a Tostrud Center record.
NJCU sophomore Miles captures Men's 55 Dash Anthony Miles of New Jersey City Univ. won the 2006 Men's 55 Meter Dash with a time of 6.29 seconds. Miles time was a Division III best for 2006.
Women's 55 Meter goes to Lincoln's Jackson Lincoln University sophomore Shanda Jackson captured the 2006 Women's 55 Dash title. Jackson's time of 7.09 beat out Augsburg's Tonnisha Bell by .01 seconds. Jackson has now won two NCAA 55 meter dash titles in her two collegiate seasons.
Zodda wins Men's 800 Meter Run College of New Jersey senior Jeff Zodda ran a 1:52.53 to win the 2006 Men's 800 Meter Run. Zodda's time set a new Tostrud Center record. Zodda edged out the victory by .14 seconds.
Keene State senior Lucey takes Women's 800 Meter Run Breanne Lucey of Keene State College won the 2006 Women's 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:13.78. Lucey's time beat out second place finisher Amber Druien of North Central by .02 seconds.
Men's 5000 Meter Title goes to Yuot Widener University senior Marcharia Yuot claimed 2006 Men's 5000 Meter Run with a time of 14:33.29. Yuot also won the event in 2005.
Jarocki takes home second title with Women's Shot Put Win UW-Oshkosh senior Robyn Jarocki won the 2006 Women's Shot Put with a new meet record throw of 55'11.25". Her throw was over nine feet farther than second place and broke the old meet record by two feet. Jarocki also won the women's weight throw yesterday.
Women's 5000 Meter Run goes to Williams Caroline Cretti Williams College senior Caroline Cretti won the 2006 Women's 5000 Meter Run with a time of 16:44.57. Cretti's time was a new Tostrud Center record and a Division III season's best.
UW-La Crosse takes Men's DMR The UW-La Crosse Men's Distance Medley Relay team of Kevin Oelstrom, Eric Svestka, Andrew Boldt, and Mike Herlihy took the 2006 Championship with a time of 10:05.24. Their time was good for a new Tostrud Center record and UWL's fourth title this meet.
Women's DMR title goes to Keene State The Keene State Women's Distance Medley Relay team of Jennifer Adams, Sarah Miller, Krystin Gavin, and Breanne Lucey took the 2006 Championship with a time of 11:56.45. Their time was good for a new Tostrud Center record.
UW-La Crosse wins fifth event with Men's 4x400 Relay Championship The UW-La Crosse Men's 4x400 Relay team of Tony Marcinek, Nate Olson, John Doble, and Jeremy Deterville took the 2006 Championship with a time of 3:16.36. Their time was good for a new Tostrud Center record and clinched UWL's sixth consecutive team championship.
Lincoln edges College of New Jersey for Women's 4x400 Relay Win The Lincoln University Women's 4x400 Relay team of Shari Richardson, Ashley Parker, Yolona Sabb, and Jordean Mathews took the 2006 Championship with a time of 3:51.08. Their time was a Division III season's best.
