Women's soccer opens league play with 3-0 win

WINONA, Minn. - Lindsay Howard scored twice as the St. Olaf women's soccer team defeated Saint Mary's University on Saturday in the Oles' MIAC opener.

Howard scored each goal in the second half to give the Oles two- and three-goal leads.

St. Olaf got on the board with a first half goal from Deanne Schmidt, at the 29:12 mark, to take a 1-0 lead.

The Oles (4-1-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) outshot the host Cardinals (3-2-0, 0-2-0 MIAC) 17-5.

Samantha Sickbert made three saves to get the shutout win in goal.

St. Olaf plays host to Wartburg College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
