MINNEAPOLIS - Jordan Berg threw for 397 yards and three touchdowns to lead host Augsburg to a 49-21 football win over St. Olaf on Saturday.
The Auggies (3-0, 1-0 MIAC) turned all four St. Olaf turnovers into touchdowns and returned a kickoff for a score in the win, their first over St. Olaf since 2004.
Berg was 37-for-53 and found his favorite target, Royce Winford, 13 times for 116 yards and all three scores.
Muneer Al-Hameed added nine receptions for 102 yards for the Auggies.
St. Olaf quarterback John Haberman was 13-of-23 for two touchdowns, but threw two interceptions and fumbled twice in the loss.
Haberman's second fumble was returned by Augsburg's Andrew Bergeson 64 yards for a touchdown.
St. Olaf trailed 21-0 after three first quarter Augsburg touchdowns - on drives of 60, 56 and 22 yards. The Oles then scored on a Coty Watkins' 43-yard run, but the Auggies David Tilton took the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown to make it 28-7.
Haberman's first TD pass came on the next drive, a 14-yard strike to Ryan St. John. His second came late in the fourth on a three-yard play to tight end Mike Shimshock.
The 28-point loss to the Auggies stopped a four-game St. Olaf winning streak between the schools and was the Oles' worst in the series since 1997 (42-0), the same year Augsburg won the MIAC title. St. Olaf handed the Auggies lopsided defeats in the previous three meetings (49-0 in 2005, 68-17 in 2006 and 70-31 in 2007).
