Men's soccer plays HU to 3-3 tie

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Drew Lukas scored the game-tying goal for Hamline University with 2:46 to play in regulation as the visiting Pipers played to a 3-3 tie against the St. Olaf men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon.

Mike Buehler opened the scoring for in the 10th minute to give Hamline the early 1-0 lead. Erik van Mechelen answered for the Oles as his header in the 14th minute evened the score at 1-1.

Matt Fenske scored off a cross from Logan Rathjen to put St. Olaf ahead 2-1 at the 46:37 mark. Thirty seconds later Drew Lukas scored for the Pipers to tie the game 2-2.

Phil Kennedy put the Oles up 3-2 with 8:29 to play in regulation, but Lukas' second goal of the day for Hamline tied the score at 3-3 and sent the game into overtime.

Neither side could get a goal across in either of the two overtimes and the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

John Zietlow had two assists for St. Olaf, giving him a team-high nine assists this season.

St. Olaf next travels to Mankato, Minn. to play Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday night.
