Men's hockey routs Lake Forest to open 2008-09

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf raced to a 5-0 lead and defeated Lake Forest College 7-1 for a season-opening men's hockey win on Friday night at Northfield Ice Arena.

Dylan Mueller had two goals and an assist as the Oles had goals from six different players in the victory.

The win was the Oles' first to open a season since 2002-03.

St. Olaf held a 1-0 lead after the first period on a goal from Bryan Giordano. Giordano, Nick Stalock, Matt LaBombard and Sam Windsor each had a goal and an assist in the win.

First year goaltender Ben Lies made 25 saves and picked up the win in net for the Oles (1-0-0, 0-0-0 MIAC), who outshot the Foresters 63-26.

St. Olaf hosts defending NCAA Division III Champion St. Norbert College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
