Carleton drops women's soccer in season finale

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Sophie Wood scored for Carleton College in the 7th minute and the visiting Knights held on to defeat the St. Olaf women's soccer team 3-2 in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.
Wood took a corner kick from Lily VanderStaay and headed it past St. Olaf goalkeeper Elizabeth Huggins to give Carleton the 1-0 lead.
Nicole Tomita scored an unassisted goal in the 38th minute to give the Knights a 2-0 heading into halftime.
Lindsay Howard scored in the 77th minute to cut the Carleton lead to 2-1. Mia Zutz answered for the Knights with a goal in the 82nd minute to extend the lead to 3-1.
With three minutes remaining, St. Olaf cut the lead to 3-2 on a goal from K.C. Beed.
Carleton (13-5-0, 9-2-0 MIAC) held on in the final minutes to secure the 3-2 victory and will play in the MIAC tournament that begins Wednesday.
St. Olaf (8-9-1, 5-5-1 MIAC) did not qualify for the MIAC playoffs.
