Men's hockey hangs with defending champs, but loses 5-2

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's hockey team dropped a 5-2 game to defending NCAA Division III champion St. Norbert College on Saturday afternoon at Northfield Ice Arena.

The Oles (1-1-0, 0-0-0 MIAC) led 1-0 on a Nick Stalock goal and were within a pair of scores until the No. 1 Green Knights (3-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHA) added an empty net goal in the final minute.

St. Norbert, which scored four unanswered after the Stalock tally, had two goals from Brandon Longley.

The Oles closed the gap to 4-2 on a goal from Andy Benson with 8:08 left in the second period.

St. Olaf plays at UW-River Falls on Friday and in Buffalo, Minn., on Saturday against UW-Stout.
