NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf women's hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday night at Northfield Ice Arena.
Gretchen Leyendecker and Rachel Welz scored first period goals for the Blazers (3-1-0, 1-1-0 MIAC), who led 2-0 in the game's first five minutes.
Anna Messerly scored the Oles' goal, at the 5:49 mark of the first, moments after Welz' goal.
Jess Ptachick made 23 saves for St. Olaf in net, but took the loss.
The Blazers' Abbie Helminen earned the win, stopping 20 shots.
St. Olaf plays a home-and-home with Gustavus Adolphus College. The teams meet in New Ulm on Friday and at Northfield Ice Arena on Saturday.
