Williams, Nelson named to MIAC First team

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Senior defensive end John Michael Williams, Jr., and senior punter Matt Nelson were named to the MIAC's all-conference first-team on Monday, assistant league director Matt Ten Haken announced.

Williams led the team in sacks, with 4.5, and tackles for a loss with 12. Williams was also named to the 2008 All-Sportsmanship team.

Matt Nelson averaged 37.4 yards on 41 punts, including 13 inside the 20.

Coty Watkins, John Schantzen, and Adam Concannon earned Second-team team All-Conference honors.

This is the second honor for senior running back Watkins, who led the team in carries (174), yards (874)and scoring (9 touchdowns for 54 points).

Schantzen, a junior lineman and third-year starter, anchored the Oles' offense.

Concannon, a first team All-MIAC pick in 2007, recorded 50 tackles, including 6.5 for a loss, and had one interception this season.

The Oles finished the 2008 season at 6-4 overall, 4-4 in the MIAC.
