KENOSHA, Wis. - The St. Olaf men's swimming team had its share of pool bests at the Carthage Invitational on Saturday, led by Nelson Westby's near Division III record in the 100 breast.
Westby swam a conservative 57.56 in the prelims and followed with a 54.66 in the finals, a pool record by over two seconds and just .17 off the national record. The swim was his only individual effort in the evening session.
Westby added another NCAA A cut swim in the morning, with his 1:50.86 in the 200 IM prelims, and helped the Oles to a 400 Medley Relay team to a victory.
Joining Westby on the MR team were Adam Meyer, Jake Koch and Luke Money.
Koch had quite a day as well. He took the 200 IM in Westby's absence and also won the 100 free in 46.29 after setting a meet record with a 46.15 in the prelims.
Meyer got a win himself, in the 200 back in 1:52.97.
The Oles' other pool record came from Chris Bateman, who won the 500 free in 4:32.20. The time was almost five seconds faster than the previous top mark and is a solid B cut.
