MINNEAPOLIS - The St. Olaf men's swimming and diving team set school records in a pair of relay wins on Thursday and has an 18-point lead over second place Gustavus Adolphus College after the first of the three days at the MIAC Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.

The Oles opened the night with a win in the 200 Free Relay -- with Jake Koch, Adam Meyer, Nelson Westby and Keagan Recher -- in a school record 1:22.61.

The team followed with a school, meet and conference record in the 400 Medley Relay behind swims from Meyer, Westby, Erik Witzel and Brock Edwards.

The team picked up one individual win, as diver Ryan Trostrud won on the 1-meter board. Teammate Ian Straehly was third in the event.

The Oles had three second place swims on the night: Chris Bateman in the 500 Free, Westby in the 200 IM and Koch in the 50 Free.

The event continues with tomorrow's prelims at 10:30 a.m. before the finals at 6:30 p.m.
