Baseball splits series with Pointers

MINNEAPOLIS - The St. Olaf baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday evening in the Metrodome, falling 4-3 in game one before a 6-2 victory in the second.
Game One: UWSP 4, St. Olaf 3 The Pointers scored four unearned runs in the first inning on three St. Olaf miscues and held on for the 4-3 win.
St. Olaf rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth, two on a double by Nick Fuerst, but the Oles stranded a leadoff single in the seventh.
Todd Mathison worked four innings, scattering four hits and striking out six in the tough luck loss.
Carson Jones went 2-for-4 to lead St. Olaf at the plate.
Garett Bloom went 2-for-3 for UW-Stevens Point in the win.
Game Two: St. Olaf 6, UWSP 2 Carson Jones went 2-for-3 with a homer while Tyler Jones was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Oles in the 6-2 win.
Brandon Agneberg worked 4 1/3 innings of almost perfect relief to earn the victory. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
Each team scored two unearned runs in the first inning. St. Olaf then added single runs in the third and fifth and two in the sixth to secure the win.
