Softball gets first win of season in UW-Stout split

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - St. Olaf earned a 4-2 win in game one and split a non-conference softball doubleheader with UW-Stout on Tuesday morning in the Irish Dome.

Game One: St. Olaf 4, UW-Stout 2
Ali Berens went 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs to lead the Oles to the win, their first of 2009.

St. Olaf pitcher Katie Truax scattered six hits and struck out five in a complete game win.

The Oles got a run in the first, three in the fourth and carried a 4-0 lead into the final inning. The Blue Devils then rallied for two in the seventh before Truax got a pinch hitter to ground out to end the game.

Game Two: UW-Stout 15, St. Olaf 8
The Blue Devils scored nine runs in their final two at bats to pull out a 15-8 win in game two.

St. Olaf, which trailed 6-0 after two innings, scored its eight runs in the third and fourth innings to take two-run lead.

UW-Stout (5-3) then collected four hits and benefited from a St. Olaf error on the way to a six-run fifth.

The Blue Devils' Laura Vanderhoof went 3-for-3 with a double, homer and pitched five innings to earn the win.

Anna Begin and Truax each drove in two with doubles for the Oles (1-3) in the loss.
