Men's track opens outdoor season at Falcon Invitational

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The St. Olaf men's track and field team opened the outdoor season this weekend at the Falcon Invitational, hosted by UW-River Falls.
The Oles' top performer in the event was John Schantzen, who won the shot put. Schantzen's throw, totaling a distance of 15.89 meters, qualifies him provisionally for the NCAA's.
St. Olaf added another first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with senior Jake Kurczek's win. Kurczek won the event in 57.56.
Also performing well on the track for St. Olaf was David Green, whose 10:04.46 steeplechase was good for second place. Teammate Dan Monroe added a third place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.25. Winner Dan Strong, of UW-Stout, crossed the line in 22.23.
The Falcon Invitational was unscored. St. Olaf competes again on April 9 at the Meet of Saints at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.
