Baseball Oles drop game one, rebound to save split

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf baseball team dropped a 1-0 decision to Bethel in the first game before winning the second, 10-7, in an MIAC doubleheader on Tuesday at Mark Almli Field.

Game One: Bethel 1, St. Olaf 0
Bethel's Travis Adams tossed six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and a walk while striking out nine, as Royals held on for the game one win.

St. Olaf mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh off reliever Ben Turnwall, who walked the first two hitters in the inning. Turnwall then struck out Sam Baltes and got a 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Tyler Johnson to get the save.

Todd Mathison took the loss for St. Olaf, despite a seven-strikeout effort. Mathison scattered seven hits and didn't allow a bases on balls in the loss.

Jay Slick and Kirk Darling each went 2-for-3 for Bethel. The Royals scored the game-winning run on Tim Churchill's two-out single to right field.

Tyler Jones went 1-for-2 with a walk for the Oles.

Game Two: St. Olaf 10, Bethel 7
Starting pitcher Brandon Agneberg worked six innings and the Oles pounded 13 hits to win game two.

St. Olaf scored five in the bottom of the sixth, sparked by a Tyler Jones two-run homer, to gain a 10-4 lead.

The Royals then touched reliever Alex Sommer for three runs on three hits and a walk to close the gap. The Oles then turned to Erik Olson, who struck out the next two hitters to get the save.

The Oles had five two-hit efforts, led by Erik Nelson who singled and walked twice. Nick Fuerst and Corey Nelson each went 2-for-3 with a RBI in the win while Carson Jones and Tyler Johnson went 2-for-4.
