SMU sweeps softball

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Saint Mary's University swept the St. Olaf softball team, 11-1 and 8-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Mabel Shirley Field.
Game One: SMU 11, St. Olaf 1 Four SMU batters had three hits, as a part of 19 as a team, in the 11-1 run-rule win over the Oles.
Ali Berens had two hits to lead St. Olaf.
After two scoreless innings to start the game, the Cardinals struck for five runs in the third and three in each of the next two innings.
Game Two: SMU 8, St. Olaf 2 Cassie Otte was 3-for-4 and Danielle Geske hit a grand slam, her second homer of the day, as SMU completed the sweep with a 8-2 win.
Berens, Kjirsten Speer and Ellen Larson each went 2-for-4 for the Oles, who stranded nine baserunners in the loss.
Geske's slam came in the third inning to give the Cards a 4-0 lead. St. Olaf countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a Berens two-out single.
SMU added three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to extend the lead on the way to the sweep.
