Softball swept by St. Kate's

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf softball team was swept by the College of St. Catherine, 8-0 and 4-2, on Tuesday at Mabel Shirley Field.
Game One: St. Kate's 8, St. Olaf 0 The Oles were limited to four hits by St. Kate's hurler Kayla Bergerson while the Wildcats' Jessi McGehee went 2-for-2 with a homer, two RBIs and three runs.
Melanie Brooks had two of the Oles' four hits in the loss.
St. Kate's took advantage of an error to score three unearned runs in the first inning. The Wildcats added two runs, on the McGehee homer, in the third.
Game Two: St. Kate's 4, St. Olaf 2 Kayla Gronli went 2-for-3 with a game-tying homer for the Oles, but St. Kate's used four hits to score twice in the top of the sixth to earn the win.
The Wildcats jumped to a 2-0 lead when they plated two unearned runs in the fourth inning after a pair of St. Olaf errors.
The Oles countered with a run in their half of the fourth on two Wildcat errors and a hit.
Gronli then led off the fifth with the homerun, her first of the season, to tie the game at 2-2.
Jessica Kniefel, Kaitlyn Frank and Jenna Clark each had two hits for St. Kate's in the win.
St. Olaf (4-20, 2-8 MIAC), which has now lost eight in a row, will host the College of Saint Benedict on Thursday.
