ST. PAUL, Minn. - Macalester College earned a 10-7 and 3-1 sweep of the St. Olaf baseball team on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots' game one win over the Oles was the first in the series since 2004 and the sweep was Macalester's first over St. Olaf since 1995.
Game One: Macalester 10, St. Olaf 7 The Scots, who had their first six batters get two hits each, scored five runs in the first two innings, added three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to get the win.
St. Olaf had a 4-for-4 game from Todd Mathison and a 3-for-4 effort from Nick Fuerst in the loss.
The Oles were down 5-1 after two but mounted a comeback. They scored five times in their half of the third on four hits, including a two-run double from Mathison, to take a 6-5 lead.
The Scots then strung together a walk and three straight hits in the fourth to score three times and regain a lead they would not lose.
Game Two: Macalester 3, St. Olaf 1 St. Olaf scored a run in its first plate appearance, but Macalester used three pitchers to hold the Oles scoreless over their last six at-bats to secure the win and sweep.
Mathison was 2-for-4 and drove in the Oles' only run in the loss.
Macalester was limited to four hits but had two timely run-scoring knocks off the bat of Robert Williams. Williams drove in two with his single in the second and the Scots' other run with his two-out single in fourth.
The Oles outhit Macalester 6-4 but didn't capitalize on the opportunities they had. St. Olaf stranded 10 baserunners, including the bases loaded in the first and two in the fifth.
The Oles will host Concordia College-Moorhead on Monday at 1 p.m. The series, which was scheduled for Sunday, was moved to Monday to avoid forecast rain.
