BU defeats softball twice

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bethel University held on for a 5-2 win in game one and cruised to a 9-0 victory to complete a MIAC softball series sweep of St. Olaf on Wednesday.
Game One: Bethel 5, St. Olaf 2 St. Olaf erased a 2-0 BU lead with a two-run third inning to tie the game. The Oles used a Melanie Brooks double and a sacrifice fly from Ellen Larson to score in the inning.
Bethel, however, scored once in the fourth and twice more in the sixth to get the win. The Royals, who outhit St. Olaf 10-3, had a 2-for-2 game from pitcher Rebecca Akerson. Akerson struck out 13 in the win.
Game Two: Bethel 9, St. Olaf 0 Bethel scored five times in the second inning, on seven hits, to take a 6-0 lead on the way to the run-rule win.
BU had 14 hits in the game two win and got a three-hit shutout from pitcher Nea Harkness.
St. Olaf will finish its MIAC schedule on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Carleton. The Oles will then host Martin Luther College on Monday in a non-conference twinbill that will conclude the 2009 season.
