Softball routs Martin Luther twice to finish 2009 season

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf earned a pair of lopsided softball wins, 16-2 and 15-0, over Martin Luther College on Monday to close the 2009 season.

The sweep gave the Oles a four-game winning streak, their longest of the 2009, to close the season.

Game One: St. Olaf 16, Martin Luther 2
St. Olaf exploded for 13 runs in the third inning, on six hits and four Martin Luther errors, and coasted to the win.

The 13-run inning ranks as the highest scoring inning in at least the last nine seasons.

Kari Zimmerman went 3-for-3 and Katie Truax 2-for-3 for St. Olaf in the win. Kayla Gronli added a three-RBI effort at the plate, while Truax worked the first four innings to get the win.

St. Olaf 15, Martin Luther 0
Martin Luther committed five first inning errors, including four in the first three batters, as the Oles scored three in the frame and never turned back.

St. Olaf collected 12 runs on 12 hits in the second and third innings and were led by Ellen Larson's five RBIs, Kjirsten Speer's four runs and a 3-for-4 game from Ali Berens.

Berens finished the season with 47 hits and .398 average, each which rank fifth all-time at St. Olaf.
