Men's tennis beats Carleton to get to MIAC final, Oles drop title match to Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's tennis team picked up a 5-4 win over second-seeded Carleton on Saturday morning to advance to the MIAC playoffs championship, before falling to top-seeded Gustavus 8-1 in the finale.
Finals: (1)Gustavus 8, (4)St. Olaf 1 The Oles' John Wight picked up a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) victory at the No. 5 singles flight over the Gusties' Kevin Stickney for the team's win.
St. Olaf had close matches at each of the doubles flights dropping 8-4, 8-3 and 8-5 decisions.
Wight finished the season 13-3, winning his last ten outings. He started at the team's No. 5 spot, but moved to the fourth for the spring's final two matches.
He was one of four Oles that finished the season with a winning record, with top flight player Ian Pray (9-7), David Narvaez (9-7, including 8-7 at No. 3), and Nick Hubbard-Peters (11-4 at sixth and fifth spots).
Wight and Will Mitchell finished the season 14-2 overall and 12-2 at the third doubles position.
