Ole men fifth at MIAC track and field championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf had two event winners on the way to a fifth place finish at the MIAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which finished Saturday afternoon.

John Schantzen won the shot put with a 16.69m effort (54' 9 1/4"), more than a foot and a half farther than the nearest competitor. Schantzen set a school record in the event last week with his 17.17m toss in Hamline's meet.

The Oles' other strong performance on the field came from Ryan Doyle, who was third in the high jump (6-5).

The team's win on the track came from Jacob Marotz, who won the 10,000 in 30:44.86, an NCAA provisional time. Marotz added a sixth place finish in the 5,000.

Duboul Ruon just missed a win in the 5,000, finishing 3.4 second off the winning pace in second place.

Dan Monroe added two top-five finishes going fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 100. Monroe added an eighth place effort in the long jump.

Ryan Doyle added to his third place finish in last week's decathlon with the same result in the high jump.

The team's 4x800 relay team finished third while the 4x400 squad was fourth.

The Oles' other top individual finishes came from Cullen O'Neill (5th in the 800), Ben Wilson (6th in 1,500), Jake Lambert (7th in 10,000).
