ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Olaf first year infielder Erik Nelson, who hit a league-best .553 in conference play, was named the MIAC's baseball rookie of the year on Wednesday.

Nelson was one of five Oles -- with Todd Mathison, Tyler Johnson, Carson Jones and Nick Fuerst -- who were named all-conference.

Nelson had three homers, seven doubles and 19 RBIs in conference play to earn the honors.

Mathison earned his fourth straight all-conference selection after posting a .342 average in league games. As a pitcher he was 3-2 with a save in six appearances and a 4.24 ERA.

Johnson hit .377 and was second in the MIAC in homers with eight to get a spot on the team. His 12 homeruns overall rank second all-time at St. Olaf.

Fuerst carried a .423 batting average in MIAC games, with two homers and 15 RBIs, to get his second straight appearance on the team.

Jones hit a robust .467 (35-for-75) with 10 doubles to get his first career All-MIAC nod. He led the league in hits, runs (33), triples (3) and was second in stolen bases (12-for-12), doubles (10) while his average was fourth.
