Men's soccer plays to draw with Carthage

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf and Carthage College played to a 1-1 men's soccer tie on Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

St. Olaf took a 1-0 lead on Tommy Van Wylen's header in the 66th minute.

Carthage tied the game with 3:43 left in regulation on a Tyler Cortez unassisted goal.

The goal came shorthanded after the Redmen's Drew Liogas was handed a red card, the first of two delivered by the officiating staff. The Oles' Nate Van Wylen received one in the sixth minute of the first overtime session.

St. Olaf had its chances. The Oles had 22 shots in the contest, including 13 in the second half and overtime. Carthage had six of its 10 shots in the first half.

The Oles (2-0-1, 0-0-0 MIAC) open league play on Wednesday with a road match at Hamline University.
