Ole women open league play with win over Pipers

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf scored twice in the first half on the way to a 4-0 MIAC women's soccer victory over visiting Hamline University on Tuesday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

Lindsay Howard got the Oles going with a header, her second goal of the year, in the ninth minute to make it 1-0. K.C. Beed followed with a 50-foot strike at 18:20 for a 2-0 advantage.

The Oles, who moved into the NSCAA North Region top 10 this week, added on with two more scores in the second half. Christina Herron-Sweet finished Beed's corner kick at 55:35 before first year Lauren Babcock's picked up her first career score in the 76th minute.

Samantha Sickbert made three saves to pick up the shutout win, her first of the fall.

St. Olaf (4-1-0, 1-0-0 MIAC), off to its best start under fourth-year head coach Jeremy Driver, host the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday at 1 p.m.
