Volleyball battles No. 6 Tommies tough, but loses in four

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Sixth-ranked St. Thomas outlasted the St. Olaf volleyball team in four sets -- 30-28, 23-25, 14-25 and 18-25 -- on Wednesday night at Skoglund Center despite a match-high 22 kills from the Oles' Kim Smisek.
Jill Osborne had 12 kills and Kyley Crotty 10 to lead the Tommies, who overcame deficits of 6-2, 26-25 and 27-26 to win the exhausting first set.
Smisek had 10 kills opening frame and seven in the second, but was slowed by the Tommies' blockers in the final two.
The Oles were plagued by the service game. UST collected ten aces while St. Olaf had just one and a nine service errors.
St. Olaf (8-2, 0-1 MIAC) plays at the College of Saint Benedict Invitational this weekend in St. Joesph, Minn.
