Cobbers hand Oles another tight loss

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Concordia College defeated St. Olaf 17-14 in a MIAC football game on Saturday, handing the host Oles their fourth straight one-possession loss.
St. Olaf, trailing by the final margin, had the ball twice in side the final five minutes but could not score. The team's final drive ended when Zach Debeltz intercetped Clay Garrett with 1:27 left.
Concordia went ahead 17-7 on Carl Hauser 30-yard field goal with 13:32 left in the fourth.
The Oles responded with Garrett's touchdown toss to Antonio Jennings to make it 17-14 with 8:45 left. After the St. Olaf defense held Concordia, the Oles drove inside Cobbers territory but turned it over on downs.
St. Olaf outgained Concordia 283-243, but was hurt by penalties. The Oles were whistled seven times for 130 yards.
Garrett was 19-for-37 for 201 yards, two touchdowns and the interception. His other TD throw when to Jared Mueller, from 35 yards out, to tie the game at 7-7 with 13 seconds left in the first quarter.
Jennings had four catches for 65 yards while Carson Jones had five for 51.
Concordia led 7-0 and 14-7 on a pair of Andrew Larson touchdowns. The first, a rushing score, came from a yard out. His second came with 2:09 left in the first half on a 14-yard passing play from Cobber quarterback Michael Dunham.
St. Olaf (3-5, 1-5 MIAC) travels to Gustavus next Saturday while Concordia plays at Carleton.
