Men's hockey starts fast, beats SMU 5-2

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf scored twice in the game's first minute and defeated Saint Mary's University 5-2, behind Isak Tranvik's goal and two assists, on Saturday night at Northfield Ice Arena.
Tranvik assisted on the game's first goal, by Jeff Warren, just 17 seconds into the game. Bryan Giordano then scored 36 seconds later to give the Oles a 2-0 lead.
Britton Smith added his team-leading fourth goal of the season at 10:13 of the first to make it 3-0.
Saint Mary's closed to within a score with back-to-back goals, from Anthony Bohn and Mike Glaesmer at 6:03 and 6:30 of the second period.
The Oles (3-1-0) responded with Tranvik's unassisted goal at 14:02 of the same period and Ben Umhoefer's tally at 18:16 of the third.
St. Olaf opens league play next weekend against Gustavus Adolphus College. The teams meet in Northfield on Friday before playing on Saturday in St. Peter.
