Friendship Commodified

Confession time: I stayed up until 3 a.m. to create my Facebook profile, and I am one of the most avid Facebook “recruiters” on campus.

Aggression shown towards lawmakers: Lawyers, judges worldwide deserve more protection from violence

The notion of justice around the world has suffered some troubling setbacks in the past few weeks. On March 2, a member of the Iraqi tribunal which is trying Saddam Hussein, Barwiz Mahmoud Marwani, and his son, a lawyer working with the tribunal, were shot dead while leaving their house in Baghdad.

Celebrating Gender meaningfully

It seems to me that St. Olaf has been talking a lot about sex these days. Well … perhaps I should clarify.

What sustains us?

The merits of being “environmentally friendly” have long been a subject of casual discussion on campus. However, when the college announced plans to build a wind turbine earlier this year, campus sustainability stopped being a passive concern and became a college-wide movement.

Deja Moo is not all that it seems

After reading the deja moo caf fliers and the article in last week’s Manitou Messenger, I began to take issue with the company’s marketing strategy. I live on a dairy farm in west central Minnesota, and my parents are proud to use rBGH (also known as rBST, or Posilac, by brand name) to treat their dairy cows.

‘Short Skirt’ article misses point

Last week’s Manitou Messenger included an article criticizing “Short Skirt Day,” held in honor of the opening night of “The Vagina Monologues.” As a “Monologues” cast member, I joined the ranks of women who bared their legs. We did so as a group, in solidarity. All members of the cast and crew walked around with pride.

Mess Poll
How do you feel about the recent news of a tuition increase?
This is news to me.
I am a senior. Thank god.
I'd feel better about it if a more adequate explanation was provided.
It's routine and expected. What gives?
