'Karhu' epitomizes running rivalry

Rivalry is, perhaps, the essence of all sport. Nothing compares snatching victory from an able opponent in a competition steeped in tradition. No loss more bitter than one suffered at the hands of a foe who knows your name. Within the sheltered world of Northfield athletics, there are no two teams more familiar, nor any rivalry greater, than that between the St. Olaf and Carleton cross country teams.

Womens hockey wins opener, falls to Saints Saturday

The St. Olaf womens hockey team opened the 2004-2005 season with a 3-1 victory against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday night.

Splitting hairs: Men skate to tie, cap weekend with win

The St. Olaf mens hockey team couldnt have picked a much tougher opponent for their season opener than the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Superior opened the 2004-2005 season ranked 10th in a prominent national poll, and is widely considered a dominant Midwest hockey force.

Cobbers clobber Oles

Last week, the surging St. Olaf Oles stunned defending national champion St. Johns at a sloppy Manitou Field, forcing eight turnovers in the 21-19 victory. Saturday, the Oles hoped to pull off an even more impressive feat by toppling the nationally-ranked and undefeated Concordia Cobbers. MIAC fans around the state were wondering: Could the Oles shock the football world yet again with another upset win?

It's a small world after all

Swimmers start strong at Quad

The St. Olaf mens and womens swimming and diving team officially began its meet season Saturday at the Northfield Quad Classic. The meet, which is the Oles annual season-opening event, also featured competitors from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Carleton, St. Johns and St. Bens. No score was kept, but the Oles nonetheless turned in a number of impressive performances.
