The St. Olaf student population spends, on an average weekend, about $1,000 to $2,000 at Dominos of Northfield. Students spent $1,000 in the Pause last week. In the 2003 fiscal year, departments, student organizations and residence hall councils spent $10,152.94 at Dominos. Department charges in the Pause came to $5,047.25.
Now, we understand some of the reasons for buying from Dominos. Theyre open until 2 a.m., and they deliver seven days a week. The Pause stops taking pizza orders at 11:30 p.m. and only delivers nights, Sunday-Thursday. If you need pizza and the Pause isnt open, we know that you have to go to Dominos. We do that ourselves, right here in the Messenger office. Or, perhaps, if you have two broken legs on a Friday night we know that trekking over to the Pause would be difficult.
But if you are not broken and you are not having a craving at 1:30 a.m., we are making a demand, right here, right now: buy your pizza at the Pause.
Heres why: the College is having budget problems to the tune of $3.2 million dollars. The Pause is part of the College. It is better, therefore, to have money flowing into and within the College than flowing out into a national franchise. What has Dominos done for you lately? If we spend more money at the Pause, the Pause has more money. If the Pause has more money, they can get bigger bands, deal financially with replacing Arbstock, get better programming and buy better equipment for their kitchen, the den and the stage.
And, perhaps the most important, the Pause executives reminded us that if more money flows into the Pause, they will need less money from SGA. If they need less money, that means that the College has more money. And then the College can spend their money elsewhere and maybe even keep other programs from being cut.
Order from the Pause. Pause pizza is cheaper than Dominos pizza. A large from the Pause costs eight dollars. A large from Dominos will put you out $13.50.
Order from the Pause. Their pizza is good. They have garlic cheese bread. They have cheap sodas. They have pretzels and cheese. They have malts.
Order from the Pause. It could help the budget. It is cheaper. It is closer. It is not hard to walk across campus, even if the temperature is below zero. And if it is hard, make the sacrifice. If you have two broken legs, send your roommate. Your friends work in the Pause, sometimes to finance their college education. Help them out. Pay them a visit.
And by the way, wed like green olives. A large. From the Pause.
