After a stretch of four consecutive losses, the men's hockey team rebounded with a 5-2 win over Northland College last Saturday night.

Will Wetterlin '06 opened the scoring for the Oles when he scored an unassisted goal in the first period.

Northland came back to even the score on an unassisted goal of their own right before the close of the first period.

The Oles put the game out of reach with a dominant second period. After falling behind to Northland early in the period, the Oles came back to score three unanswered goals, the first of which came from Ted Bickel ’06 on assists from Ronn Guild ’06 and Matt Rau ’07. The Oles’ second goal of the period was scored by Keith Townsend ’05 with an assist from Mitch Mudra ’07. The goal was Townsend’s third of the season.

Bryan Hapka ’05 finished off the scoring in the period with the help of a Mike Cassano ’05 assist.

Guild would get the final goal of the game on yet another unassisted play in the third period.

The Oles’ attacking style of play overwhelmed Northland, as the team outshot their opponents 41 to 25. Neither team, however, was able to capitalize consistently on their power play opportunities. Each team converted only one of six chances when possessing the man advantage.

The Oles will open MIAC play this weekend with a home and away stand against St. Mary’s Friday and Saturday night. The puck drops for Friday’s game at the Northfield Ice Arena at 7:00 p.m.
