The St. Olaf women won their Friday match-up with UW-Superior 5-4. Susannah Brokl '07 got the women off to a fast start, scoring two minutes into the game off an assist from Janae Fabini '08. After UW-Superior tied the game in the first period, Laura Wild '08 put the Oles up 2-1, assisted by Brokl and Melissa Mueller '06.
Katie Bennett '08 opened the scoring in the second period, with her goal coming off a Lindsay Weier '06 assist. Fabini netted the Oles' fourth goal of the game in the seventh minute of the second period. Fabini scored her second goal of the game less than three minutes later.
In Saturday's contest, the Oles were unable to capitalize on their offensive chances. Unlike in Friday's game, in which the Oles scored three of their five goals off of power plays, the Oles went 0-for-8 Saturday on their power play opportunities.
"We had our chances," Brokl said. "Some nights things go your way and other nights they don't. We've been doing great in practice, so we're confident that we'll start making the most of the chances we get in games."
The Oles executed a well-played defensive scheme for much of the game, until the fourth-ranked Yellowjackets scored four of their five goals in the third period.
The Ole men got a 5-3 victory on Friday night over UW-Stevens Point. Jeff Budish '08 netted the games first goal, with an assist from Andrew Gastineau '07 and Brett Kistner '08. Pat Gilles '05 scored the Oles' second goal of the game in the 15th minute of the first period. Thirty seconds later Josh Biser '06 scored on an assist from Mitch Mudra '07 and Kyle Hilmershausen '07.
After an offensive outburst from UW-Stevens Point, Bisner scored his second goal of the night to put the Oles up 4-3. Budish finished off the scoring with his second goal of the night coming five minutes into the third period.
Saturday's 3-2 loss against UW-Eau Claire was a tough one for the men to take. The Blugolds scored two goals in the third period less than two minutes apart. Joel Ihrie '06 gave the Oles a 2-1 lead with his goal in the beginning of the third period.
The men are now 2-1-1 on the season. They face top-ranked St. Norbert College this Friday at St. Norbert's College. The Ole women are 2-2 on the season and will get their first takes of MIAC competition on Friday when they take on St. Ben's in Northfield. The puck drops at 7 p.m at The Structure.
