Amy Springer 08 was the Oles top finisher, shooting a combined score of 164, which was 20 strokes over par, allowing her to tie for a 13th place finish. Alyssa Zuehl 09 and Anna Johnson 08 had scores of 183 and 188, respectively, for the two-day tournament.
The Oles finished 12th out of 16 teams, with a team score of 725. Southwest State, who shot a combined score of 642, clinched first place in the competition. Following Southwest State was the University of North Dakota, who shot 643, and St. Thomas, who shot a 646 on the par-72 course.
Although the Oles saw room for improvement in their play at the Cobber Invitational, outside factors certainly altered their performaces.
High winds and hot temperatures made playing conditions difficult, Springer said. Nevertheless, it was great seeing everyone improve throughout the tournament.
The Oles hope to develop new talent and stronger play later this fall. The team has a relatively young group of players, with three first years, four sophomores, three juniors and no seniors.
The ladies next competitions are the Luther Invitational and the Saint Bens Invitational on Oct. 1 and 2, respectively. The Oles conclude their fall season with the MIAC championships on Oct. 8 and 9.
