When Sean Ahrar took over the St. Olaf wrestling job this summer, he knew that he was inheriting a program that has struggled for the past several years.

"This is a rebuilding year," said Ahrar about his 2005-06 team.

St. Olaf hopes that Ahrar can give the program some direction as they seek to catch up with their MIAC counterparts.

Ahrar spent 2004-05 as the head coach at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D., leading seven Tigers to the NAIA National Championships, producing two Great Plains Athletic Conference Champions and one Region Champion.

A native of Iran, Ahrar spent two seasons at Carleton and was the MIAC’'s Coach of the Year in 2003 before the Knights'’ program was eliminated.

This year, joining the St. Olaf team will be fellow Dakota Wesleyan transfer Steven Wood '‘07.

Wood, who also played on the St. Olaf football team this fall, was a two-time NAIA Division-II national qualifier and the 2005 northwestern region champion.

Returning from last season’'s team will be Phil Simondet '‘06, La Da Thor '‘07, Tyler Muelener ‘'07 and Thomas Kopietz '‘08.
