While walking by the Speech and Theater Building last Wednesday, Dave Braasch ‘06 heard loud noises coming from a campus trash can, and peered inside. A squirrel jumped out onto the lid of the trashcan and used Braasch’s face to launch onto a basketball hoop.

“I never saw it. It happened so fast,” Braasch said. “It didn’t evenland on my face; it just used it as a launching pad.”

While the squirrel did not show aggression towards Braasch, it did jump at his face from inside the trashcan.

Braasch suffered from minor cuts on his face and visited the nurse, who disinfected the wounds and assurred him that squirrels do not carry rabies.

“They look cute and furry, but they’re very fiendish, those squirrels,” Braasch said.
