Although the St. Olaf men'’s track and field team had greater aspirations for the indoor season, the Ole squad came away with several impressive performances at the MIAC Championships held at Carleton last Friday and Saturday. The men finished fourth overall, behind St. Thomas, Hamline and St. John'’s.

Victories for the Oles came from Tom Cruse ‘'07 in the 600-yard and 800-yard dash, who sprinted for a time of 1:14:09 in the 600 and 1:55:46 in the 800, and Pete Cathcart’'s '‘06 55’1-foot ”shot put throw.

Cathcart’s toss qualified as an NCAA provisional distance, and also broke the Carleton Recreation Center record, previously set in 2002. The next closer competitor was St. John’'s hurler Chris Tift, who threw 50’1 feet.”

In the 55-meter dash, Horace Gant '’08 finished third with a time of 6.61, .15 seconds behind the first-place time.

Long-distance man and cross-country All-American Sam Hauck ’'06 placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run. Teammate Tony Hoff ’'07 finished a second behind Hauck.

Both Hauck and Hoff also finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run.

The 800-meter relay team, comprised of Latravis Henry ‘'07, Trey Williams ‘'06, Aaron Schloer '‘07 and Gant, finished first with a time of 1:31:17.

St. Thomas won the meet for the 22nd-straight year.

Cathcart will be the Oles'’ lone representative in this weekend’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships held at St. Olaf’'s Tostrud Center.
