When the thick, wet snow fell Monday, many students noted the amount of snow that remained on the sidewalks around campus. Rumors flew that the lack of plowing was due to one of St. Olaf’s plows driving into a ditch. However, those rumors are false.

A Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) plow working on I-35 did go into a ditch, however.

“Quite a few Ole commuters saw and remarked on it,” said Pete Sandberg, assistant vice president for facilities. “The only trouble we had was because the snow came fairly fast, [and] was heavy and wet. [It] compressed into ice quickly.”
