Rumor has it: The facilities building was once used as a crematorium

In an article entitled “Plant holds a powerful mystery” on the Facilities Building in the November 14, 2003 issue of the Manitou Messenger, a disturbing fact was divulged: “Up until 1970, it also served as the town crematory.”

This error, grammatical and factual, led to the assumption that the building had once been used to process the ashes of the town’s dearly departed.

This is false. What writer Lauren Radomski ‘07 had originally reported was that the building had been the town’s creamery. This fact, however, was lost in the editing process.

The facilities building had never been used to process ashes, but rather had only processed ice cream and other dairy products.
