The St. Olaf fastpitch softball team, looking to improve upon their 10th place MIAC finish a year ago, recently completed their Spring Break trip to Arizona as well as the first eight games of the conference season.

Currently, the Oles' record stands at 7-15 overall and 1-7 within the MIAC. The team opened their six-day, eight-game spring trip in Tuscon with a pair of lopsided victories over Crown College on March 25, winning game one 15-0 and game two 20-4.

The Oles then proceeded to win just one of their final six games on the trip, a 6-1 victory over Patten University on March 28.

After returning home, St. Olaf began MIAC play against Gustavus on April 4. The Oles dropped a pair to the second-place Gusties 8-2 and 12-2.

St. Olaf then dropped its next three conference match-ups, two games to St. Mary's and game one of a doubleheader against Carleton, before defeating the Knights 7-2 on Saturday afternoon. Jenna Arotta '06 had two RBI and Laura Torgenson '06 picked up the win.

St. Olaf also swept a non-conference doubleheader from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. on Sunday. Bekki Hagen '06 and Torgenson each threw complete game shutouts, with Torgenson allowing just two hits in the 5-0 game two win.

The team dropped a pair of contests to top-ranked St. Thomas Wednesday, falling to the MIAC-leading Tommies 20-0 and 7-0.

Head coach Ruthie Neuger's Oles will take on Concordia Thursday before traveling to Macalester for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
