Rumor Has It: A $15,000 cycad plant in the greenhouse was damaged during the hailstorm

An expensive cycad plant did sustain damage during the hailstorm on Friday Aug. 25, but the plants estimated worth is a few hundred dollars not $15,000 according to Professor of Biology Charles Umbanhower.

The 30-year-old cycad suffered cosmetic damage only, and will be fixed when the new fronds grow in. The cycad plant is a type of gymnosperm, and it resembles a palm or tree fern.
