Hosting non-conference Northwestern College last Tuesday proved to be just the ticket as the Oles upended the Eagles 2-0.
Phil Kennedy 10 scored in the 23rd minute, assisted by Mark Zietlow 09 off a corner kick.
In the second half, Alex Evans 07 scored the final goal of the game, off another corner kick assisted by Gabe Herrick 07.
Coach Kurt Anderson was satisfied with his teams effort against Northwestern.
We played well, Anderson said. We managed two quality goals, while still maintaining our focus defensively and preserving a shutout.
The Oles outshot the Eagles 17-7.
Sunday, the Oles traveled to greet the Luther Norse in Decorah, Iowa.
The Norses Luis Enriquez sailed a low liner with only 20 seconds left on the clock in the second overtime to give Luther a 1-0 win.
It is very unfortunate that we had to lose such a heartbreaker after playing well for 119 minutes, Andreson said. We played especially well against Luther. We just have to learn from these experiences and move forward.
Although the Oles outshot the Norse 22-7, they were unable to capitalize on their scoring chances. Brian Kehoe 07 and Barrett Kennedy 09 both struck four shots each.
Wednesday, the Ole men battled both the snowy weather and St. Marys Cardinals, earning a 4-0 home win. Kennedy and Kehoe notched first-half goals as the Oles took an early lead and never looked back.
The Oles now stand 2-3-1 in MIAC play and 5-6-1 overall. The Oles travel to Texas over fall break to take on Southwestern University and Trinity University in the San Antonio area.
