The Knights Brett Adelman scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute, and the Knights never looked back.
After a difficult first half, head coach Kurt Anderson felt the team played a much improved second half.
"We had some good chances down the stretch, but we couldn't find the back of the net," Anderson said. "We fell a little short."
The final home game of the season was played at Rolf Mellby Field on Oct. 24 against the Hamline Pipers. Keeper Eric Smith '07 had six saves and Piper Andrew Clement had seven as the game ended scoreless after two overtimes. The Oles outshot the Pipers 18 to 12.
"I felt we played fairly well and we had a number of shots that didn't make it," Anderson said.
St. Olaf ended the season with a 3-5-2 MIAC and 6-10-2 overall. Their home record was 5-4-2.
"We had good senior leadership all year. Im thankful for seniors and upper classmen working hard, setting an example for the next batch to emulate," Anderson said. "We had great positive team chemistry."
This years seniors include Alex Evans, Abu Farah, Andrew Gastineau, Erik Halaas, Gabe Herrick and Brian Kehoe. Grateful for the seniors experience, Anderson is also looking to a strong return of players next year.
"We hope to attract a few freshmen, and we have a few on the JV program that will step up and help," Anderson said. "We had expectations to do better than the net result, but I think the team made good effort, had a good attitude all season, and played hard."
