Last season was definitely a success for all four squads. The mens alpine team placed seventh at National Championships in Sugarloaf, Maine, with the womens team placing 13th. The mens nordic team also placed third at the USCSA (United States Ski and Snowboard Association) National Championships. St. Olaf combined to place first in the Governors Cup, where alpine and nordic events are scored together.
Along with the new captains at the helm, St. Olafs ski teams will feature a number of talented returning athletes. On the alpine side, David Sayre '09 and Charlie Simacek '08 are expected to set the pace for the men, while for the women Calista Anderson '09 and Hennessey Wadell '08 will lead the women. For the nordic skiers, newcomer Jens Matson '10 (men) and Linn Dale '07 (women) should be solid contributors.
The alpine team will begin their season Jan. 6-7 at Afton Alps (Afton, Minn.) and the nordic team gets underway at the Senior Nationals in Houghton, Mich.
