It has only happened once in my 18 years at St. Olaf, Dean of Students Greg Kneser said.
In April 1995, Mark Edwards first year as President of St. Olaf, 18 inches of snow fell overnight.
Kneser remembers seeing Edwards walking up from the Presidents house the morning after the blizzard. Edwards asked if St. Olaf had ever cancelled school due to snow, and what he should do to cancel classes for the day.
Kneser called local radio stations, hung signs in residence halls and had faculty members announce the days cancellation to students already up and about.
