Turnovers topple winless women

The St. Olaf wrestling team began its dual season on Friday, Nov. 17 at home against York College. St. Olaf was handed the loss, 28-11.

Despite two major decision victories from Dan Rysavy '10 (133), 13-0, Nick Espinosa '09 (149), 12-3, and a decision from Steven Wood '07 (197) after winning 4-0, the Panthers won in the other seven weight classes.

The next day, the Oles went to Augsburg's Adidas/Brute Invitational in Minneapolis. Junior Tom Kopietz placed second during the open in the 165 weight class. Richard Traut '10 took fifth and Rysavy claimed fifth, both 133 weight class participants. First-year Andres Arizmendi in the 125 weight class claimed seventh. Lucas Scott '08 (157) and August Lambers '07 (285) both finished the invitational with a 2-2 record.

Looking ahead, the next duel for the Oles is against Dakota County Technical College on Nov. 30. On Dec. 2, the Oles will journey to Wisconsin for a bout with the Milwaukee School of Engineering, among other schools as part of an invitational style tournament. After that the Oles will have four consecutive home meets beginning on Dec. 9.
